Mr. G. Hoyle Whitley, age 89, a resident of Locust, NC passed away on Friday, July 1st, at his home. He was born on December 16, 1921 in Stanly County. He was the son of the late J.D. Whitley and Fannie Blake Whitley. He was married for 39 years to Edith Mauldin Whitley who preceded him in death.
He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1940. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 99th Infantry Division, Company B, 24th Medical Unit with a rank of Technical Sergeant from November 1942 until November 1945. He was employed by Wiscassett Mills in the Yarn Dying Department until his retirement in 1987. He also served as the Choir Director at West Albemarle Baptist Church for 25 years and at Mission Baptist Church for 25 years. Mr. Whitley also worked part time at Dun Rite Cleaners as a tailor for 20 years. He was a long time member of Mission Baptist Church.
Mr. Whitley enjoyed spending time sewing for his family and friends and also with his friends in the Fellowship Club and at the Locust Nutrition Site. He loved people and above all loved his family and his church.
He is survived by three daughters, Kristi Small and husband Harold of Locust, Koni Huneycutt and husband Eddie of Locust, and Kolis Moore and husband Tom of Albemarle. He also is survived by three grandchildren Wil Huneycutt, Emily Huneycutt, and Jace Whitley all of Locust and two Step Grandchildren Clay Small and Kendall Small of Concord.
Services for Mr. Whitley will be held on Wednesday, July 6th at 2 pm at Mission Baptist Church with Dr. Ronny Russell, and Pastor Jeremy Hyde officiating. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home in Albemarle on Tuesday July 5th from 6 to 8 pm.
