Fred Troy Morgan, 82, of 44991 Byrd Road, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 at his home. His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday evening prior to his funeral. His funeral will be at 8 PM Wednesday, August 5th in Stanly Funeral Home’s Chapel. Rev. Dan Abernathy will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park at 11 AM Thursday, August 6th, 2009.
Born November 15th, 1926 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Morgan was the son of the late Connie C. Morgan and Elizabeth Springer Morgan and a retired Feature Editor with the Stanly News and Press where he worked for 34 years. He was a member of Badin Baptist Church and the author of numerous books most of which concern the folklore of the Uwharrie Region. He loved speaking to schools and civic groups about his books and especially his ghost stories. He was a veteran of the US Navy in WWII and he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, hiking, photography, woodworking, and collecting arrowheads.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Griffin Morgan; one son, Freddie Morgan of Albemarle; two daughters: Rosemary Morgan of Albemarle and Annette Morgan Starnes of Albemarle; and seven grandchildren: Morgan Starnes, Adam Almond, Gretta S. Inabinette, Diestro Morgan, Briosa Morgan, Ameno Morgan, and Carisma Morgan. One brother, Roy Lee Morgan, and one sister, Pauline M. Carpenter, preceded him in death.
