Mr. Ellie "Ell" Franklin Wilson, Jr., age 91, of Albemarle, NC, passed away on Friday, October 21st, 2011 at his home. His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM and his funeral will be at 11 AM on Monday, October 24th, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church in Albemarle, NC. Rev. Jim Yow will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
Born May 3rd, 1920 in Abbeville, SC, Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Ellie Franklin Wilson, Sr. and Eva Pruitt Wilson. He was a 1941 graduate of Clemson College and was a former Vacational Art Teacher at Albemarle High School. He also worked with Wiscassett Mill Company as the Superintendent of Maintenance. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, The Albemarle Lions Club for 70 years, The Home Savings Bank Board of Directors, and The Albemarle City Planning and Zoning Board where he served as Chairman Emeritus. He also was very active in the Central NC Council of Boy Scouts of America where he was the recipient of the James West Award and the Silver Beaver Award. He was a Veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. His hobbies were his pecan farm and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rouse Wilson. He is survived by one son, Ernest F. Wilson and wife Lisha of Albemarle, NC; two daughters: Julia W. Moore and husband Joe of Monroe, NC and Ellen W. Talbert of Albemarle, NC; one sister, Margene W. Lyon of Oak Ridge, TN; seven grandchildren: Kelli Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Scott Moore and wife Renee, Julie Huneycutt and husband Eric, Elizabeth Nicholson and husband Tom, Meg Schmidt and husband David, and Tate Talbert; and five great-grandchildren: Christian Moore, Tyler Moore, Zac Crisco, Ellie Morris, and Dawson Schmidt.
