Mrs. Dorothy Greenlee Blair passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 6:45 a.m. at Stanly Regional Medical Center, following a short illness. Her service will be 2 PM Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Laura Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Blair was born in Badin on October 31, 1922 and remained in her hometown all her life. She was a life-long member of Badin United Methodist Church, a graduate of Badin High School and she also studied nursing at Charlotte Memorial School of Nursing. Mrs. Blair retired from Stanly Memorial Hospital. She was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles. Mrs. Blair has left behind many memories in all of her beautiful knitting, quilting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, James Claude Blair, Jr. She is survived by daughters Nancy Blair Reece (Deva) and children Nathan and Elliott, Barbara Blair Overcash (Robert) and children Ellen Matheny (Jim) and Alex Overcash (Maris) and one son, Jim Blair (Anita) and their daughter Laura Fields (William). She had two great-grandsons; Elijah Blair Fields and Blake Van Overcash.
The family would like to thank the staff of Stanly Regional Medical Center, Hospice of Stanly County, and her two special caregivers Reba Smith and Brenda Layberger of Badin.
