Colon Eugene Cooper, age 78, of 144 B. Heritage Drive, St. Simons Island, GA, passed away on Saturday, February 6th, 2010 at Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA. His family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7 PM to 9 PM at Stanly Funeral Home and his funeral will be at 2 PM on Friday, February 12th, 2010 in Stanly Funeral Home’s Chapel. Rev. Norman Coward will officiate and burial will be in FairviewMemorial Park in Albemarle, NC with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
Born July 20th, 1931 in Burnsville, NC, he was the son of the late Starling Van and Estelle Carpenter Cooper. He was a retired manager of SS Kresge Corp., a member of PeachTreeCityUnitedMethodistChurch, and a Veteran of the US Army and WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Coward Cooper; one daughter, Karen Cooper Robb and husband Allyn David of St. Simons Island, GA; two sisters, Frances Carpenter of Midland, NC and Sarah Burleson of Albemarle, NC; and two grandchildren: Whitney Elaine Boda and husband Stephen David of Kennesaw, GA, and Braelinn Elyse Sowell of St. Simons Island, GA.
