Rev. Alton Parker Basinger, Jr., age 72, of 720 Shady Drive, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 at his home.  His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM and his funeral will be on Tuesday, April 5th, 2011 at 2 PM at Prospect Baptist Church.  Rev. Stoney Benfield, Dr. Hal Bilbo, Dr. Darrell Huneycutt, Dr. Gary Pinion, J.R. Drake, and Joe Calloway will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory. 

Born June 23rd, 1938 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Basinger was the son of the late Alton Parker and Helen Eagle Basinger.  He was a 1956 graduate of New London High School, graduate of Fruitland Bible College and Mid-Atlantic Bible College.  He was a retired Baptist Minister of Cottonville Baptist Church, East Albemarle Baptist Church, and East Side Missionary Baptist Church in Concord, NC.  He served as a pastor for a total of 32 years.   He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.  He was very active in the Stanly Baptist Association and a faithful, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. 

He is survived by his wife Maxine Campbell Basinger; two sons, Gregory Todd Basinger and wife Stefanie of Augusta, GA and Michael Scott Basinger and wife Nada of Concord, NC; one daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) B. Smith and husband Brad of Marshville, NC; three brothers: Jerry Basinger of Salisbury, NC, Hayden Basinger of Albemarle, NC, and Robert (Bob) Basinger of Concord, NC; one sister, Dorthy B. Lowder of Mt. Pleasant, NC; eleven grandchildren: Rebecca Spaniel and husband Ryan of Anchorage, AK; Monica Basinger of Charleston, SC, Janet Basinger of Charleston, SC, Anna Basinger of Charleston, SC, Kylie Basinger of Concord, NC, Haley Smith of Marshville, NC, Katelyn Smith of Marshville, NC, William Rabb of August, GA, Andrew Rabb of August, GA, Parker Todd Basinger of August, GA, and Reese Basinger of August, GA; and a faithful companion, his beloved dog Gidget.  He was preceded in death by two daughters, Vickie Basinger and Janet Marie Basinger; and one sister, Hatie Laura B. Davis.
